ITINERARY
Day 1:
Monday April 7, 2025
Overnight flight from USA to Athens.
Athens has long held an important place in history and world travel. As the site where ancient Athenians developed the world's first democracy, in the fifth century B.C., the city is still laden with awe-inspiring ruins, like the famed Parthenon that sits on the Acropolis of Athens, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Along with offering visitors a chance to connect with history, Athens today is also known for its regional cuisine, casual lifestyle, and friendly demeanor toward tourists.
DAY 2:
Arrive Athens; We will spend 4 days and nights in Athens, the birthplace of democracy, arts, science, and philosophy. Home of Plato, Socrates, Pericles, Euripides, Sophocles, Aeschylus and many others. Upon our arrival we will take an overview coach tour of Athens, and a short orientation walk followed by an early dinner. Overnight Athens
DAY 3:
Guided tour of Athens to include the Acropolis, Parthenon, Panathenaic Stadium, the ancient Agora, the Plaka, and other important sights; welcome dinner included. Afterwards you can relax on the rooftop, overlooking the Acropolis. Overnight Athens
DAY 4:
Today we begin an amazing 4-day journey through Peloponnese and the Central Mainland. We will depart our hotel at 9 AM and travel on our private luxury coach to Corinth for a 2-hour tour of this ancient city where Paul preached and was forced to flee for his life. The tour includes a visit to the very interesting Corinth Museum and a casual walk-through ancient Corinth. After lunch at a local restaurant, we continue onto Mycenae for a fascinating tour of that ancient city and civilization and pass through the Lions Gate. Mycenae is always an unexpected surprise for visitors. This includes an uphill walk to some of the ruins. Overnight Nafplio
DAY 5:
We will depart our hotel again at 9 AM for the drive to Epidaurus, a prominent Greek city dating from 500 BC. There we meet our local guide and visit the ancient amphitheater of Epidaurus. After lunch we are on the road to Olympia. Along the way you will notice the rugged countryside that is so typical of Greece-away from the modern cities-and magnificent coastline of the Ionian Sea. Overnight Olympia
DAY 6:
This morning, we take an amazing tour of Olympia. This ancient city-state, best known for being the site of the Olympic Games from 900 BC to 500 BC is a sprawling city of ruins including the stadium where the games took place. After our tour and lunch at an open-air restaurant, we begin our drive to Delphi where you can consult with the famous Oracle. Along our route we will pass through Patras, the seaport that connects Peloponnese to mainland Greece and Europe. We will check into our hotel and have dinner on our own at any one of the many restaurants overlooking the beautiful valley below. You will certainly want to wander the town and take in all the surrounding beauty after dinner. Overnight Delphi
DAY 7:
Our guide will lead us up the mountain this morning where we will see the ancient city of Delphi. After the Acropolis, Delphi is the most popular archaeological site in Greece. In ancient times Delphi was considered the center of the known world, the place where heaven and earth met. Following this tour, we will visit the Delphi Museum which provides a fascinating perspective of ancient Greece. Once all our questions have been answered by the Oracle, we will return to Athens. After a short rest, we will enjoy a provided dinner and show. Bring your dancing shoes. Overnight Athens
DAY 8, 9, 10, & 11:
In the morning of day 8 we will board the Celestyal Discovery for a 4-day cruise through the Mediterranean Sea with ports of call at Mykonos, Ephesus (one of my favorite places to visit in Europe), Patmos, Crete, Rhodes and Santorini. All meals with wine and beer are included.
DAY 12:
Upon our return to Athens, we will be met by our private coach which will take us to St. George’s Chapel which overlooks our hotel. After a short visit we will attend an authentic Greek cooking class where we will prepare and cook our own lunch. There will be free time after lunch to shop or just relax. Overnight Athens
